As believers, we should only want to listen to music that glorifies our creator. Anything that glorifies sin is sin in itself. The bible says in James 4:4 that to be a friend of the world is to be an enemy of God. Meaning that if you accept, promote, approve of, or love any type of selfish pleasure that is based on sin, then those sinful actions are not in line with God's word. Sin separates us from God's presence. Small things like music have a big impact on the way we act and think. Many say that secular music is just an expression or just for entertainment but these excuses do not excuse the sin that is planted into our minds by this music. Songs speaking about sex before marriage help to create images and feelings of the words they are saying. We have to raise the standard of Christian living. If Jesus were riding in the car with you, what kind of music would you be listening to?
Talking about and glorifying selling drugs, killing, stealing, fornication and exalting yourself is not bringing glory to God. The bible also says that God is love (1 John 4:8). How can you sing about love with out singing about God if God is love? Thats like talking about Puffy and not Sean Combs or Santa Clause and not Kris Kringle. Isn't that the same person? Just because the rappers/ singers love to talk about things that are not pleasing to God does not mean we have to love listening to it. Many of them profess to know God but they deny Him by their works, actions, words, music, etc. Everyone knows of God but your lifestyle reflects if you KNOW Him or you KNOW OF Him. God is such an awsome, powerful, loving, merciful God, that everything we do or say should some how lift up His name and should help us to become more like Christ.
